St Davids RNLI Lifeboat Station
Shouts 2014 St Davids Tamar class lifeboat “Norah Wortley” arrived at station on 15th April 2013 to be kept afloat on a mooring at St Justinians until her new boathouse was built.  The Tyne class ALB “Garside” was retained to cover whenever the Tamar had to be removed from her mooring in bad weather, etc. ALB = All-weather Lifeboat - 47-026 Tyne ‘Garside’ or 16-26 Tamar ‘Norah Wortley’ ILB = Inshore Lifeboat  - D-704  ‘Myrtle & Trevor Gurr’ 20th November 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 7.10pm to assist the 13m vessel “Valkyrie” which had fouled it’s propeller at St Justinians.  A tow was passed and the vessel moved into deeper water where her propeller was freed.  She was then escorted to a mooring at Ramsey and the lifeboat returned to station at 8.04pm. 14th September 2014 – ALB and ILB At 12.25pm, whilst completing the previous service, both boats were tasked to a 6.5m RHIB with engine failure about 1 mile east of Solva.  On arriving the casualty vessel was dragging her anchor and was just 3m from the rocks.  The Tamar ALB quickly passed a tow rope and took the vessel to Solva.  The ILB then towed the vessel to Solva quay.  Both boatd returned to station at 1.35pm. 14th September 2014 – ALB and ILB As the lifeboats were completing their exercise at midday they were tasked to Newgale where a woman swimmer had been reported in difficulties about ¾ mile from the beach.  On arrival the woman was located and on further investigation found not to need any assistance and made her own way ashore. 6th September 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB tasked at 4.25pm to locate 2 kayakers reported overdue from Newgale beach.  As they were launching the missing kayakers were located safe and well and the lifeboats were stood down. 28th August 2014 – ALB Immediately after the incident below the Tamar ALB was requested to provide a communications link for an incident at Pen-y-Cwm beach where a 17 year old male had inhaled water.  He was subsequently airlifted to hospital.  Lifeboats returned at 3.35pm. 28th August 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB responded at 2.58pm to 2 kayakers capsized near Caerfai.  On arrival people from on shore were assisting the kayakers to safety.  Lifeboats released at 3.15pm. 26th August 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB tasked at 1.46pm to assist Little Haven ILB and RNLI lifeguards with 3 children in difficulties outside the surf line at Newgale beach.  The lifeguard rescue boat had capsized in the initial rescue attempt, however, the lifeguards were able to recover the casualties before the lifeboats arrives.  One person  was airlifted to hospital.  Returned to station at 2.10pm. 25th August 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB called at 1.36pm to evacuate a woman with a back injury from Ramsey Island.  St Davids coastguards and paramedics were also transferred to the island before the woman was landed at the station and taken to hospital by ambulance.  Returned at 3.25pm. 19th and 20th August 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB launched at 10.24pm to multiple reports of red flares in St Brides Bay near Porthclais.  The ILB searched along the coastline whilst the ALB searched Ramsey Island and St Brides Bay.  With nothing found both boats returned to station at 1.10am. 15th and 16th August 2014 – ALB Tyne ALB launched at 11.03pm  to reports of red flares in Whitesands Bay.  A search of the area including St Davids Head up to Strumble Head using RADAR, night vision and searchlight resulted in nothing being found.  The lifeboat returned to station at 1.07am. 10th August 2014 - ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 9.04am to support Little Haven ILB which had been launched to a surfer reported to be waving for help in the sea at the southern end of Newgale Beach in rough sea conditions. Whilst en route, a mile or so south of the Green Scar rock, the casualty was located safe and well and all units were released to return to station.  Returned to mooring at 9.44am. 8th August 2014 - ILB ILB launched at 4.52pm to assist a coasteerer who had fallen on rocks near St Nons injuring his back.  On arrival the ILB crew provided first aid treatment and pain relief before evacuating the man to Porthclais harbour where he was handed over to St Davids coastguards and an ambulance crew for further treatment at hospital.  Returned to station at 7.23pm. 7th August 2014 - ILB ILB launched at 5.04pm following reports of two persons stuck on the cliffs at Caerfai Bay.  ILB arrived on scene and searched the area and were able to establish from some swimmers that the two people had managed to return to shore.   The ILB was released to return to station at 5.35pm. 2nd August 2014 – Alb and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB tasked at 3.33pm to 3 kayakers trapped on a beach between Porthgain and Abercastle.  The ALB escorted ILB to scene owing to rough conditions at the upper limit of ILB operation and requiring a very high level of skill by the helm.  A Royal Navy helicopter airlifted 3 people and their equipment to the cliff top from Pwll Llong storm beach.  As conditions for the ILB were so bad the boat was recovered onto a trailer and returned by road to St Davids. ALB returned at 5.17pm and the ILB at 6.10pm. 31st July 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 2.44pm to assist a 19 yo male with a shoulder injury at Porthmelgan.  LB proceeded to scene and launched the Y-boat to land 2 crew onto the cliff.  First aid was administered with the help of an RNLI lifeguard and the casualty brought onto the Y-boat and transferred onto the ALB to be returned to the lifeboat station for transfer to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.  Six other coasteerers were also landed onto the lifeboat slipway.  Returned to mooring at 3.40pm. 22nd July 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB launched at 4.30pm after thick fog suddenly descended on the area resulting in the Whitesands RNLI lifeguards becoming concerned for the safety of some kayakers and paddle boards which had left the beach.  In visibility less than 15 metres the lifeboats searched Whitesands Bay to St Davids Head then out to the west side of Ramsey Island and Bishops and Clerks rocks.  Several targets were investigated but were able to reach shore without requiring assistance.  Returned to station at 6.10pm. 20th July 2014 – ALB Tyne ALB launched at 11.16am to the 10m fishing vessel Mari Ann with 2 people on board was taking on water and had an engine problem in a position to the west of Ramsey Island.  Once on scene the cause of the ingress of water was found and that lifeboat escorted the vessel to Fishguard.  The lifeboat returned to station at 3.40pm. 24th June 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB responded at 6.43pm to reports of a small sailing vessel sinking near St Nons with 2 people in the water.  On arrival at the scene the 2 people had been picked up by another vessel and taken ashore for medical attention.  The lifeboats recovered the vessel, drained it of water using the salvage pump and it was towed by the ILB into Porthclais harbour. Lifeboats returned to station at 7.55pm. 15th June 2014 - ALB Tamar ALB launched at 10.08am to assist the 28ft yacht Lulu with engine failure 4 miles NE of St Davids Head, 2 crew on board.  The ALB was quickly on scene and took the vessel under tow back to St Justinians where he was placed onto a spare mooring.  Later in the day, being unable to make repairs on board the vessel, he agreed a commercial tow to Milford Haven.  Returned to station at 12.15pm. 14th June 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB tasked at 1.31pm to assist a 6m RIB broken down at Abereiddi with 2 people on board which had put out a PAN-PAN message.  Tamar LB arrived and took the vessel in tow to Porthgain harbour where the Y-boat was launched to take the casualty vessel ashore as it was low water.  The casualty was handed over to St Davids CG and the Y-boat recovered before the ALB returned to station at 3.05pm. 13th June 2014 – ILB ILB launched at 5.52pm to assist a broken down RIB at Abermawr, Ramsey Island with 2 people on board.  The ILB proceeded to the given position and located the casualty.  A towline was passed and the ILB took the vessel under tow to Porthclais harbour where they were met by St Davids Coastguards.  The ILB returned to station at 7.05pm. 30th/31st May 2014 – ALB & ILB Tamar ALB and ILB tasked at 10.42pm to assist police and coastguards with a search for a missing 31yo woman to the area south of St Davids.  A coastal search from Caerfai to Carreg y Fran was undertaken.  At 2.20am the lifeboats returned to station with nothing having been found.  The woman was located at about 9.30am by police in the St Davids area. 16th May 2014 - ALB At 2.14pm the Tamar ALB launched for a PAN-PAN from a yacht with engine failure at the north end of Ramsey Island, unable to sail against the strong ebb tide.  The crew were concerned they were being carried towards rocks between Ramsey Island and the Bishops and Clerks.  On arrival a tow was passed and the yacht towed to Milford Haven Marina.  Returned to station at 6.30pm. 11th May 2014 - ALB Tamar ALB launched at 1.11pm for a surfer in difficulties off Newgale Beach.  Little Haven ILB was also launching. Whilst en-route it was found that the casualty had been assisted ashore by others with chest pains and hypothermia and was taken to hospital by land ambulance. The lifeboat continued to Newgale to meet Little Haven ILB and escort them back to their station in rough seas.  Returned to station at 2.50pm. 26st March 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 8.03am to the yacht “Tiger Feet”, with 2 people on board, which was taking in water about 7 miles WSW of Ramsey Island.  A salvage pump and 2 lifeboat crew were transferred and the vessel taken in tow to Neyland Marina for emergency repairs.  The lifeboat returned to station at 4pm. 15th January 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 7.38pm to join Fishguard ALB, Rescue Helicopter 169 and coastguard rescue teams to investigate reports of an aeroplane crashing into the sea near Trefin following a number of 999 calls.  After searching the area with nothing found it was discovered that an MOD exercise had been underway in the area.  All units were released.  Returned to station at 9.46pm.

ALB returned at 5.17pm and the ILB at 6.10pm. 31st July 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 2.44pm to assist a 19 yo male with a shoulder injury at Porthmelgan.  LB proceeded to scene and launched the Y-boat to land 2 crew onto the cliff.  First aid was administered with the help of an RNLI lifeguard and the casualty brought onto the Y-boat and transferred onto the ALB to be returned to the lifeboat station for transfer to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.  Six other coasteerers were also landed onto the lifeboat slipway.  Returned to mooring at 3.40pm. 22nd July 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB launched at 4.30pm after thick fog suddenly descended on the area resulting in the Whitesands RNLI lifeguards becoming concerned for the safety of some kayakers and paddle boards which had left the beach.  In visibility less than 15 metres the lifeboats searched Whitesands Bay to St Davids Head then out to the west side of Ramsey Island and Bishops and Clerks rocks.  Several targets were investigated but were able to reach shore without requiring assistance.  Returned to station at 6.10pm. 20th July 2014 – ALB Tyne ALB launched at 11.16am to the 10m fishing vessel Mari Ann with 2 people on board was taking on water and had an engine problem in a position to the west of Ramsey Island.  Once on scene the cause of the ingress of water was found and that lifeboat escorted the vessel to Fishguard.  The lifeboat returned to station at 3.40pm. 24th June 2014 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB responded at 6.43pm to reports of a small sailing vessel sinking near St Nons with 2 people in the water.  On arrival at the scene the 2 people had been picked up by another vessel and taken ashore for medical attention.  The lifeboats recovered the vessel, drained it of water using the salvage pump and it was towed by the ILB into Porthclais harbour. Lifeboats returned to station at 7.55pm. 15th June 2014 - ALB Tamar ALB launched at 10.08am to assist the 28ft yacht Lulu with engine failure 4 miles NE of St Davids Head, 2 crew on board.  The ALB was quickly on scene and took the vessel under tow back to St Justinians where he was placed onto a spare mooring.  Later in the day, being unable to make repairs on board the vessel, he agreed a commercial tow to Milford Haven.  Returned to station at 12.15pm. 14th June 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB tasked at 1.31pm to assist a 6m RIB broken down at Abereiddi with 2 people on board which had put out a PAN-PAN message.  Tamar LB arrived and took the vessel in tow to Porthgain harbour where the Y-boat was launched to take the casualty vessel ashore as it was low water.  The casualty was handed over to St Davids CG and the Y- boat recovered before the ALB returned to station at 3.05pm. 13th June 2014 – ILB ILB launched at 5.52pm to assist a broken down RIB at Abermawr, Ramsey Island with 2 people on board.  The ILB proceeded to the given position and located the casualty.  A towline was passed and the ILB took the vessel under tow to Porthclais harbour where they were met by St Davids Coastguards.  The ILB returned to station at 7.05pm. 30th/31st May 2014 – ALB & ILB Tamar ALB and ILB tasked at 10.42pm to assist police and coastguards with a search for a missing 31yo woman to the area south of St Davids.  A coastal search from Caerfai to Carreg y Fran was undertaken.  At 2.20am the lifeboats returned to station with nothing having been found.  The woman was located at about 9.30am by police in the St Davids area. 16th May 2014 - ALB At 2.14pm the Tamar ALB launched for a PAN-PAN from a yacht with engine failure at the north end of Ramsey Island, unable to sail against the strong ebb tide.  The crew were concerned they were being carried towards rocks between Ramsey Island and the Bishops and Clerks.  On arrival a tow was passed and the yacht towed to Milford Haven Marina.  Returned to station at 6.30pm. 11th May 2014 - ALB Tamar ALB launched at 1.11pm for a surfer in difficulties off Newgale Beach.  Little Haven ILB was also launching. Whilst en-route it was found that the casualty had been assisted ashore by others with chest pains and hypothermia and was taken to hospital by land ambulance. The lifeboat continued to Newgale to meet Little Haven ILB and escort them back to their station in rough seas.  Returned to station at 2.50pm. 26st March 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 8.03am to the yacht “Tiger Feet”, with 2 people on board, which was taking in water about 7 miles WSW of Ramsey Island.  A salvage pump and 2 lifeboat crew were transferred and the vessel taken in tow to Neyland Marina for emergency repairs.  The lifeboat returned to station at 4pm. 15th January 2014 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 7.38pm to join Fishguard ALB, Rescue Helicopter 169 and coastguard rescue teams to investigate reports of an aeroplane crashing into the sea near Trefin following a number of 999 calls.  After searching the area with nothing found it was discovered that an MOD exercise had been underway in the area.  All units were released.  Returned to station at 9.46pm.
