St Davids RNLI Lifeboat Station
Shouts 2013 St Davids new Tamar class lifeboat “Norah Wortley” arrived at station on 15th April 2013 to be kept afloat on a mooring at St Justinians until her new boathouse was built.  The Tyne class ALB “Garside” was retained to cover whenever the Tamar had to be removed from her mooring in bad weather, etc. ALB = All-weather Lifeboat - 47-026 Tyne ‘Garside’ or 16-26 Tamar ‘Norah Wortley’ ILB = Inshore Lifeboat  - D-704  ‘Myrtle & Trevor Gurr’ 27th December 2013 - ALB Tyne ALB crew paged at 7.10am in severe storm force 11 conditions for an EPIRB distress beacon activated in the Ramsey Island area.  Before launch it was confirmed that the beacon was from a local fishing vessel which had broken it’s mooring and washed ashore at St Justinians.  15th and 16th December 2013 – ALB and ILB Tamar ALB and ILB launched at 11.57pm to assist police and coastguards to search for a missing woman whose car had been found at Abereiddi.  The woman was located by the police dog handler and taken to hospital.  Lifeboats returned to station at 1.10am. 4th and 5th December 2013 – ALB and ILB Tyne ALB and ILB launched at 11.25pm to assist police and coastguards with the search for a missing man in the Abereiddi area.  Man found by the St Davids coastguards and lifeboats returned to station at 1.25am.  ALB unable to rehouse until 3.30am due to low tide. 28th October 2013 - ALB Tyne ALB launched at 2.56pm to support Little Haven ILB in search for a possible deflated liferaft adrift near Skomer Island in gale force winds.  Nothing found, so ALB escorted Little Haven ILB back to station before returning to St Justinians and rehousing at 5.55pm. 21st September 2013 – ALB and ILB Crews of both boats paged at 2.30pm to search for a swimmer reported overdue from Caerfai in thick fog.  Launch cancelled when she returned to the beach unaided. 20th September 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB assisted the fishing vessel “Lynn Catherine” which was disabled near Shoe Rock at the southern end of Ramsey Sound after her propeller was fouled in floating debris.  The vessel, with 2 people on board, was towed back to St Justinians. 14th September 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded to Abereiddi to monitor about 30 vessels as they left the Blue Lagoon cliff diving event in response to a request from the coastguard team which was on scene.  There was concern that the sea and weather conditions at the time could cause problems for the small craft. 14th September 2013 – ILB Whilst the ILB was attending a Cliff Diving event at Abereiddi it was called upon to assist a number of people who were spectators at the event.  In all 12 people were assisted to safety including 4 kayakers, 2 swimmers and a small boat.  The ILB also escorted a large number of kayakers back to Abereiddi beach at the end of the event. 13th September 2013 – ALB At 2.15pm whilst the Tamar ALB was attending a Cliff Diving event at the Blue Lagoon, Abereiddi as a PR exercise when it’s daughter boat Y-245 was called upon to assist a boy stuck on rocks.  Having transferred him to a safe location they were then requested to escort a small inflatable with 2 people on board to Abereiddi beach. 7th September 2013 – ILB ILB launched at 2.30pm to transfer police onto the yacht Silvia Blue so that they could continue investigations into the identity and cause of death of the lone yachtsman from the incident earlier in the day. Rehoused at 5.15pm. 7th September 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped her mooring at 10.24am for a lone sailor collapsed on a yacht in Whitesands Bay.  On arrival the RNLI lifeguards were providing CPR.  The lifeboat crew assisted to evacuate the casualty to the beach where an air ambulance was waiting.  However, all efforts to revive the man failed and he was pronounced dead.  The lifeboat crew then brought the yacht to a mooring at St Justinians for Dyfed Powys Police to establish the identity of the deceased.  Returned to station at 12.20pm. 6th September 2013 – ALB ALB launch requested at 9.44am to a yacht tangled in fishing gear about 7 miles NW of St Davids Head with 3 persons on board.  Whilst crew were assembling the yacht managed to free itself so the lifeboat was stood down. 3rd September 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped mooring at 4.38pm to reports of swimmers in difficulties at Carreg Gwylan, near Abereiddi.  Whilst en route the people managed to reach safety and the lifeboat was stood down.  Back at station at 5.11pm. 24th August 2013 – ILB Launched at 3.30pm for a small inflatable with 3 people on board reported in difficulties at Abereiddi.  Initially the people declined help, but after about ½ hour of failing to make any headway against the tide accepted assistance and were landed onto Pwllcarog beach.  ILB rehoused at 5.15pm. 9th August 2013 – ILB Crew paged at 6.47pm to help search for a 15 year old boy missing at Whitesands.  Stood down before launch as boy was located safe and well elsewhere. 6th August 2013 – ILB Launched at 8.50pm to a person reported as being trapped on rocks at St Nons.  St Davids coastguard and the ILB searched the area but it is believed that the man managed to reach safety unaided before the rescue services arrived.  ILB rehoused at 9.25pm. 3rd August 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 2.40pm to assist coastguards with investigations into a Mayday transmission on VHF radio after inquiries found that 2 kayakers could not be contacted.  The ALB located them near Skomer Island, safe and well.  The lifeboat returned to station at 3.45pm. 2nd August 2013 – ILB Launched at 11.52am to reports of nine persons cut off by the tide at Caerfai Bay. Shortly after launching the ILB was cancelled as the coastguards found that the casualties had been helped safely ashore by members of the public.  Rehoused at 12.02pm. 25th July 2013 - ALB Tyne ALB launched at 4.51pm for a distress beacon activated near the Smalls lighthouse, about 18 miles from St Davids.  Rescue Helo 169 arrived on scene first and found the occupant of a 5m RIB had fallen overboard.  His engine’s kill switch had stopped the boat and his beacon activated.  He was located about 300m from his boat and was airlifted for medical checks on the helicopter before being returned to his boat.  The lifeboat put one crew member aboard the RIB before escorting him to Milford Haven.  Lifeboat rehoused at 8.48pm. 23rd July 2013 – ALB Tyne ALB launched at 1.50pm to a windsurfer reported in difficulties to the SW of Ramsey Island.  52yo male found with his windsurfer who reported he was not in need of any assistance.  Lifeboat returned to station at 3.30pm.  False alarm. 19th July 2013 – ALB Tamar called at 5.30pm to a woman with a suspected broken leg on Skomer Island.  Lifeboat crew and St Davids coastguard team carried the woman about ¾ mile to the harbour.  She was landed at Martins Haven to an ambulance.  The lifeboat returned to station at 8.10pm. 19th July 2013 – ILB Launched at 11.45am to a 12yr old girl who had suffered neck injuries whilst coasteering at St Nons.  First aid administered until arrival of Rescue Helo 169 which airlifted her to Morriston Hospital, Swansea.  Returned to station at 1.15pm. 26th June 2013 – ALB Tamar slipped her mooring at 10.32am to go to the aid of a 26ft yacht, with 2 people aboard, which had engine failure about 1.5 miles NE of the North Bishop rock and was becalmed. The yacht was taken under tow to Fishguard harbour arriving at about 1.15pm.  ALB returned at 3.05pm. 3rd June 2013 – ALB and ILB At 6.12pm the ILB and Tamar lifeboats launched to reports of a fishing boat with engine failure near Carreg y Fran. The vessel was quickly located and found to be a 12ft inflatable.  The ILB towed the boat to Porthclais and both lifeboats returned to station at 7.06pm. 30th May 2013 – ILB Just after the lifeboat launched to the dog rescue (see above), a woman reported that a girl had fallen on the cliff path about half a mile to the south of the station.  Two RNLI crew proceeded on foot with first aid equipment and located the girl and at 1.07pm the ILB was also tasked to this incident, but on arrival on scene was not required.   All RNLI personnel were back at station at 1.30pm. 30th May 2013 – ILB ILB launched at 12.52pm to a dog which had fallen over the cliff approximately 200 yds to the north of the lifeboat station.  The dog was recovered by the crew and returned to the station, where a vet pronounced it dead at 1.05pm.   28th May 2013 – ILB ILB launched at 4.48pm to reports of four persons in difficulties between St Nons and Porthclais harbour.  After a short search the coastguards confirmed that the people had been located safe and well.  False alarm, the lifeboat returned to station at 5.22pm.    25th May 2013 – ILB ILB launched at 5.45pm to six students who had been cut off by the tide between Newgale and Penycwm. The lifeboat arrived 20 minutes later and picked up the students in groups of 3, landing them onto the beach at Newgale.  The lifeboat returned to station at 6.50pm.   25th May 2013 - ALB Tamar lifeboat launched at 12.55pm along with Angle ALB, Rescue Helo 169 and coastguard units for the passenger vessel “Lady Helen” which had run aground on Skomer Island with 48 people on board.  Both lifeboats and the helicopter put pumps aboard and the vessel was refloated later that day.  All passengers were evacuated by nearby vessels. The lifeboat returned to station at 4.25pm. 28th April 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped her mooring at 5.50pm to assist a 58yr woman suffering a cardiac arrest at the Farmhouse on Skomer Island.  Crew members assisted with first aid before she was airlifted to hospital.  Lifeboat returned at 8.00pm.  25th April 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped her mooring at 12.42am to the yacht “Osprey” with 3 on board with steering and engine problems in very thick fog about 5 miles west of Ramsey Island.  Lifeboat located the yacht and escorted to the pontoon at Dale, Milford Haven.  Returned to station at 5.00am. 13th April 2013 – ALB and ILB Tyne ALB and ILB launched at 9.45am to 6 people reported in difficulties at Abereiddi, one of whom was injured.  All units stood down when information was received that all were safe and the injured person had been taken to hospital by car.  Rehoused at 10.20am. 31st March 2013 – ALB Tyne ALB launched at 12.56pm to the 10m yacht “Ynys-y-Big” which was in difficulties about 5 miles west of St Davids Head.  One crew member landed onto the yacht to assist the exhausted sailor to lower his sails, then taken in tow to St Justinians.  Lifeboat rehoused at 3.35pm. 9th March 2013 – ALB and ILB ILB launched at 7.54pm with Tyne ALB in support to reports of people trying to rescue a dog over the cliffs at Llanunwas near Solva.  Lifeboats illuminated the scene whilst St Davids coastguards recovered the dog.  Returned to station at 9.45pm.

Rehoused at 5.15pm. 7th September 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped her mooring at 10.24am for a lone sailor collapsed on a yacht in Whitesands Bay.  On arrival the RNLI lifeguards were providing CPR.  The lifeboat crew assisted to evacuate the casualty to the beach where an air ambulance was waiting.  However, all efforts to revive the man failed and he was pronounced dead.  The lifeboat crew then brought the yacht to a mooring at St Justinians for Dyfed Powys Police to establish the identity of the deceased.  Returned to station at 12.20pm. 6th September 2013 – ALB ALB launch requested at 9.44am to a yacht tangled in fishing gear about 7 miles NW of St Davids Head with 3 persons on board.  Whilst crew were assembling the yacht managed to free itself so the lifeboat was stood down. 3rd September 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped mooring at 4.38pm to reports of swimmers in difficulties at Carreg Gwylan, near Abereiddi.  Whilst en route the people managed to reach safety and the lifeboat was stood down.  Back at station at 5.11pm. 24th August 2013 – ILB Launched at 3.30pm for a small inflatable with 3 people on board reported in difficulties at Abereiddi.  Initially the people declined help, but after about ½ hour of failing to make any headway against the tide accepted assistance and were landed onto Pwllcarog beach.  ILB rehoused at 5.15pm. 9th August 2013 – ILB Crew paged at 6.47pm to help search for a 15 year old boy missing at Whitesands.  Stood down before launch as boy was located safe and well elsewhere. 6th August 2013 – ILB Launched at 8.50pm to a person reported as being trapped on rocks at St Nons.  St Davids coastguard and the ILB searched the area but it is believed that the man managed to reach safety unaided before the rescue services arrived.  ILB rehoused at 9.25pm. 3rd August 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB proceeded at 2.40pm to assist coastguards with investigations into a Mayday transmission on VHF radio after inquiries found that 2 kayakers could not be contacted.  The ALB located them near Skomer Island, safe and well.  The lifeboat returned to station at 3.45pm. 2nd August 2013 – ILB Launched at 11.52am to reports of nine persons cut off by the tide at Caerfai Bay. Shortly after launching the ILB was cancelled as the coastguards found that the casualties had been helped safely ashore by members of the public.  Rehoused at 12.02pm. 25th July 2013 - ALB Tyne ALB launched at 4.51pm for a distress beacon activated near the Smalls lighthouse, about 18 miles from St Davids.  Rescue Helo 169 arrived on scene first and found the occupant of a 5m RIB had fallen overboard.  His engine’s kill switch had stopped the boat and his beacon activated.  He was located about 300m from his boat and was airlifted for medical checks on the helicopter before being returned to his boat.  The lifeboat put one crew member aboard the RIB before escorting him to Milford Haven.  Lifeboat rehoused at 8.48pm. 23rd July 2013 – ALB Tyne ALB launched at 1.50pm to a windsurfer reported in difficulties to the SW of Ramsey Island.  52yo male found with his windsurfer who reported he was not in need of any assistance.  Lifeboat returned to station at 3.30pm.  False alarm. 19th July 2013 – ALB Tamar called at 5.30pm to a woman with a suspected broken leg on Skomer Island.  Lifeboat crew and St Davids coastguard team carried the woman about ¾ mile to the harbour.  She was landed at Martins Haven to an ambulance.  The lifeboat returned to station at 8.10pm. 19th July 2013 – ILB Launched at 11.45am to a 12yr old girl who had suffered neck injuries whilst coasteering at St Nons.  First aid administered until arrival of Rescue Helo 169 which airlifted her to Morriston Hospital, Swansea.  Returned to station at 1.15pm. 26th June 2013 – ALB Tamar slipped her mooring at 10.32am to go to the aid of a 26ft yacht, with 2 people aboard, which had engine failure about 1.5 miles NE of the North Bishop rock and was becalmed. The yacht was taken under tow to Fishguard harbour arriving at about 1.15pm.  ALB returned at 3.05pm. 3rd June 2013 – ALB and ILB At 6.12pm the ILB and Tamar lifeboats launched to reports of a fishing boat with engine failure near Carreg y Fran. The vessel was quickly located and found to be a 12ft inflatable.  The ILB towed the boat to Porthclais and both lifeboats returned to station at 7.06pm. 30th May 2013 – ILB Just after the lifeboat launched to the dog rescue (see above), a woman reported that a girl had fallen on the cliff path about half a mile to the south of the station.  Two RNLI crew proceeded on foot with first aid equipment and located the girl and at 1.07pm the ILB was also tasked to this incident, but on arrival on scene was not required.   All RNLI personnel were back at station at 1.30pm. 30th May 2013 – ILB ILB launched at 12.52pm to a dog which had fallen over the cliff approximately 200 yds to the north of the lifeboat station.  The dog was recovered by the crew and returned to the station, where a vet pronounced it dead at 1.05pm.   28th May 2013 – ILB ILB launched at 4.48pm to reports of four persons in difficulties between St Nons and Porthclais harbour.  After a short search the coastguards confirmed that the people had been located safe and well.  False alarm, the lifeboat returned to station at 5.22pm.    25th May 2013 – ILB ILB launched at 5.45pm to six students who had been cut off by the tide between Newgale and Penycwm. The lifeboat arrived 20 minutes later and picked up the students in groups of 3, landing them onto the beach at Newgale.  The lifeboat returned to station at 6.50pm.   25th May 2013 - ALB Tamar lifeboat launched at 12.55pm along with Angle ALB, Rescue Helo 169 and coastguard units for the passenger vessel “Lady Helen” which had run aground on Skomer Island with 48 people on board.  Both lifeboats and the helicopter put pumps aboard and the vessel was refloated later that day.  All passengers were evacuated by nearby vessels. The lifeboat returned to station at 4.25pm. 28th April 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped her mooring at 5.50pm to assist a 58yr woman suffering a cardiac arrest at the Farmhouse on Skomer Island.  Crew members assisted with first aid before she was airlifted to hospital.  Lifeboat returned at 8.00pm.  25th April 2013 – ALB Tamar ALB slipped her mooring at 12.42am to the yacht “Osprey” with 3 on board with steering and engine problems in very thick fog about 5 miles west of Ramsey Island.  Lifeboat located the yacht and escorted to the pontoon at Dale, Milford Haven.  Returned to station at 5.00am. 13th April 2013 – ALB and ILB Tyne ALB and ILB launched at 9.45am to 6 people reported in difficulties at Abereiddi, one of whom was injured.  All units stood down when information was received that all were safe and the injured person had been taken to hospital by car.  Rehoused at 10.20am. 31st March 2013 – ALB Tyne ALB launched at 12.56pm to the 10m yacht “Ynys-y-Big” which was in difficulties about 5 miles west of St Davids Head.  One crew member landed onto the yacht to assist the exhausted sailor to lower his sails, then taken in tow to St Justinians.  Lifeboat rehoused at 3.35pm. 9th March 2013 – ALB and ILB ILB launched at 7.54pm with Tyne ALB in support to reports of people trying to rescue a dog over the cliffs at Llanunwas near Solva.  Lifeboats illuminated the scene whilst St Davids coastguards recovered the dog.  Returned to station at 9.45pm.
